Job Description

Responsible for safe food handling during preparation and service, interacting positively within a team environment by assisting coworkers with scheduled work demands. Will work with various diets, equipment cleaners, and sanitizers. Performs cleaning duties after meals.

Work Schedule

12-hour shifts, 3 days per week, considered full-time.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience preferred.
  • Must demonstrate kindness, tactfulness, consideration, and confidentiality when dealing with residents/patients and coworkers.

Ability to work beyond normal hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary. Work locations include all sites within Good Samaritan Hospital Association.

Job Responsibilities
  • Transfer supplies from kitchen to floor area, ensuring all items are available for timely meal service.
  • Prepare food and non-food items in advance, including wrapped flatware, beverages, supplements, adaptive equipment, and special foods according to nutritional plans.
  • Monitor food and equipment temperatures to ensure safety.
  • Dish desserts and salads for general and therapeutic diets as per production sheets.
  • Serve foods according to portion control, following planned menus and individual needs.
  • Communicate any necessary changes to the Dietitian.
  • Obtain meal preferences from patients and residents.
  • Ensure food is stored, prepared, and served under sanitary conditions at appropriate temperatures.
  • Stock serving areas with supplies according to daily needs.
  • Check refrigerators and cabinets for supplies.
  • Prepare coffee cart items and pass snacks to patients as scheduled.
  • Maintain production sheets for assigned areas.
  • Strive for continuous quality improvement through patient feedback.
  • Operate cash register and computer systems for payroll and menu programs.
  • Keep workstations clean and sanitary.
  • Attend scheduled departmental meetings and complete annual education requirements.
  • Assist with dishwashing tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Work in a well-lit, warm, and humid kitchen environment, with contact with dietary staff, nursing staff, residents, and families. Scheduled for weekend shifts and some holidays.

Physical Demands

Requires corrected vision, normal hearing, manual dexterity, and full body mobility. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, push carts weighing 100-200 pounds, and perform frequent bending, stooping, and stretching. Work under stressful conditions with a rapid workflow.
