Dietary Aide Job Description

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the needs of each shift's activity. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

• Must be able to learn food service routines quickly.
• Set up meal trays.
• Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
• Assist with serving different meals.
• Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of each shift.
• Monitor water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
• Operate the dishwasher.
• Prepare nourishments and snacks.
• Sweep and mop the kitchen.
• Handle trash and garbage.
• Store groceries safely, in an orderly and clean manner.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and assist as needed.
• Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
• Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
• Work cooperatively with personnel in all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes; communicate effectively with managers and staff.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various formats.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

The role requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Good vision for various visual tasks is necessary.
