Job summary

Pavilion of Ottawa is seeking a Dietary Aide to join their team. This role involves serving residents’ meals and maintaining cleanliness in the dietary department. The position is collectively bargained under the union.

Responsibilities include meal service, assisting with daily cleaning, sanitation, and helping cooks with meal preparation and supplies. Strong English reading/writing and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are required.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be able to read/understand resident tray cards.
  • Must be able to keep up in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must learn to load and operate an industrial dishwasher within one week.
  • Must follow sanitation processes and maintain cleanliness standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve residents’ meals in accordance with established portion control procedures.
  • Assist in daily or scheduled cleaning duties per policies and procedures.
  • Clean tables, meat blocks, refrigerators/freezers, etc.
  • Sweep and mop floors as directed.
  • Carry soiled utensils to the wash area.
  • Return clean utensils to proper storage areas.
  • Wash and clean utensils as directed.
  • Keep work areas clean, dry and free of hazards.
  • Set up meal trays, food carts and dining room as instructed.
  • Assist cook in preparing meals and obtaining food supplies for the next meal.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Pavilion of Ottawa is seeking a Dietary Aide to join their team! The Dietary Aide is responsible for serving residents’ meals and cleaning routines for the dietary department. At this facility, this is a collectively bargained position under the union.

Dietary Aide Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Serves food in accordance with established portion control procedures

  • Assists in daily or scheduled cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures

  • Cleans tables, meat blocks, refrigerators/freezers, etc.

  • Sweeps and mops floors as directed

  • Carries soiled utensils, etc., to wash area

  • Returns clean utensils to proper storage areas

  • Washes and cleans utensils as directed

  • Keeps work areas clean, dry and free of hazardous equipment, supplies, etc.

  • Sets up meal trays, food carts, dining room, etc., as instructed

  • Assists cook in preparing meals and obtaining food supplies for the following meal

  • All other duties as assigned


Dietary Aide Skills and Abilities:


  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English

  • Must be able to read/understand resident tray card

  • Must be able to keep up in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to learn to load and operate an industrial diswasher within one week.

  • Ability to follow sanitation process and maintain cleanliness standards


Dietary Aide Education and Experience:


  • Experience operating an industrial dishwasher and the sanitation process of the kitchen, preferred.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.

  • Experience in industrial food production preferred.

  • Prior experience working in a long-term care facility a plus.


Physical Requirements:


  • Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.

  • Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards. Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
