Description
JOB SUMMARY
Performs a variety of food services duties in the area of patient and resident meals, especially room service. Includes direct patient contact, answering the phone, taking room service orders, assembling patient trays, expediting orders, stocking tray assembly area and delivering meals and snacks to patients and residents. Adheres to and practices the St. John's Health Corporate Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Digital Dining Functions
· Demonstrates ability to use Digital Dining computer. Able to accurately enter patient's name, room number, diet order and meal requests both timely and correctly. Also able to enter sales in the cafeteria using digital dining.
· Able to print the diet report prior to each meal and monitor the printer for all diet changes. Updates diet sheet with all patient admissions, transfers, diet changes and discharges correctly upon receipt. Marks diet sheet when patient orders to assure who has ordered the meal.
· Demonstrates ability to enter cash sales into digital dining accurately. Able to collect money, make change, enter charges accurately. Bank is balanced at end of shift.
Meals and Delivery Service
· Monitors meal ticket printer and fills orders upon receipt, places appropriate items on tray in a timely and efficient manner. Assures all items on the tray are correct and delivers trays in a timely manner, waiting no more than 5 trays or 10 minutes.
· Answers room service calls professionally with good customer service skills. Assists patients with their meal orders politely and professionally. Following established standards for phone etiquette.
· Delivers meal trays to patient rooms in a friendly and professional manner. Assists with set up and assures that patients have everything they need before leaving the room. Follows established standards for meal delivery and good hand washing.
Food Preparations
· Prepares all salads, fruit and desserts for room service, following recipes and picture board to assure consistency in products.
· Assures freshness of products. Labels and dates everything correctly.
Patient's Dietary Needs
· Demonstrates an understanding and consistency for modified diets and passes diet exam annually.
· Accurately assists patients on a special diet with their menus. Offering appropriate suggestions and substitutions as necessary.
Work Area Maintenance and Cross-training
· Maintains a clean and organized work area. Keeps prep fridge clean. Checks labels and dates. Cross trains as cashier.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Work Experience
Required:Ability to interface with all hospital personnel and patients in a positive and team-oriented manner. Good communication, interpersonal, phone and customer service skills. Ability to adjust to fluctuating job demands, meet deadlines and work independently. Must be detail oriented and have ability to multitask. Basic computer skills.
Preferred:One year experience with hospital or hospitality food service preferred. Prefer five years food service experience. Prefer healthcare experience. Prefer advanced computer skills.
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Working Conditions
Healthcare setting, production kitchen with potential hazards such as steam, hot surfaces, sharp instruments, and cleaning chemicals. Working in confined spaces with temperature ranges from 0 to 90 degrees. Must be on-site at the St. John's Health campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
Physical Requirements
90% of shift standing and walking. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, pushing and pulling required. Intermittent sitting and computer use. Must be able to work 12-hour shifts.
