Job description

General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the needs of the activity during the shift. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

• Learn food service routines quickly.
• Set up meal trays.
• Strip and wash returned trays.
• Assist with serving meals.
• Check and record water temperature and chlorine concentration of the dishwashing machine at the start of the shift.
• Monitor water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
• Prepare nourishments and snacks.
• Sweep and mop the kitchen.
• Handle trash and garbage disposal.
• Store groceries safely and neatly.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment and assist the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
• Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
• Sweep and mop floors regularly.
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training for dietary staff.
• Work cooperatively with personnel across departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures, follow recipes, and communicate effectively with managers and staff.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
• Reasoning Ability: Capable of solving practical problems and interpreting various instructions.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

This role requires standing and walking frequently, occasional sitting, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary. Good vision for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception is required.
