Position Summary:
The Dietary Aide performs designated work and cleaning routines for the Dietary Department and is accountable to the Dietary Manager. In the absence of the Dietary Manager, the Dietary Aide is accountable to the Cook.
Qualifications:
- High School graduate and previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards, and work assignments.
- Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Numerical accountability is necessary for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals. Good motor coordination and manual dexterity are required for preparing food, serving trays, handling soiled dishes, operating dietary equipment, and cleaning work areas.
- The Dietary Aide should be able and willing to work flexible hours, including during emergencies, and must be patient and tolerant toward staff, residents, and family members.
Duties:
- Perform work routines using dietary utensils, supplies, and equipment as assigned.
- Assist the cook in meal preparation and service.
- Meet scheduled meal and snack times.
- Follow Federal and State long-term care regulations and Dietary Department policies.
- Perform cleaning duties as scheduled.
- Assist in arranging tray cards, loading food carts, and serving meals.
- Set up the dining room and serve residents.
- Wash and store dishes.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Report supply and equipment needs following established procedures.
- Report any damaged fixtures, unsafe conditions, or malfunctioning equipment.
- Assist in receiving and storing food supplies.
- Understand and follow facility’s fire and disaster plans during drills and emergencies.
- Follow infection control policies.
- Ensure residents are treated with kindness, dignity, and respect.
- Report grievances and complaints by residents to the Dietary Manager.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager.
- Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety in the work environment.
