Job summary

Rawlins County Health Center is seeking a Food Service Aide to assist in the preparation and serving of patient meals, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and support dietitian-directed menus. You will help set up trays, operate the dishwasher, and help with daily records while safeguarding patient confidentiality.

Minimum education is a high school diploma or GED; prior experience in large-scale food service is preferred, but training will be provided.

  • Experience in large-scale food preparation preferred; training provided for qualified candidates.
  • Must be able to work in a hot, humid kitchen environment with exposure to heat and steam.
  • Ability to lift and carry light to moderate loads (10–50 lbs) frequently.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and serve patient trays based on established schedules and procedures.
  • Clean kitchen, equipment, and utensils; operate the dishwasher.
  • Prepare coffee and assist with food carts and transportation of meals.
  • Assist with department records, communications, and maintaining required files.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills; work independently and adapt to changes.

Job description

Performs a variety of routine duties related to the preparation and serving of food; cleans kitchen, equipment, and utensils. Learns and understands various types of patient diets and assists in appropriate preparation based upon physician’s orders.

Essential Functions:

  • Sets up and serves patient trays based upon established schedule and procedures.
  • Ability to adequately clean kitchen area and cooking utensils.
  • Operates dishwasher to ensure all dishes and utensils are clean.
  • Prepares coffee for food service.
  • Prepares, loads, transports, and cleans food carts.
  • Assists with care, cleaning and maintenance of department, equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to navigate computer programs as needed for the maintenance of records, communications within the facility, and obtaining need to know patient information for proper food service.
  • Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with organizational mission & goals.
  • Demonstrate practices to keep all medical information confidential.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Participates in quality improvement projects as directed.
  • Maintain temperature records for fridge, freezer and food obtained from Good Sam.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Minimum of a high school education or GED.

Minimum Experience: Prefer prior experience in large-scale food preparation and knowledge of special diets but will train otherwise qualified candidates.

Subject to burns and cuts; exposure to hot and humid work environment; exposure to hazards of steam and heat; exposure to heat, wetness, odors in kitchen and/or patient areas; and exposure to varying degrees of kitchen elements.
