Job summary

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Nutrition or 50% BS in Nutrition and/or 2 years clinical diet tech experience.
• Experience preferred: patient contact and food service.
• Must read, write and communicate effectively in English; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patient menus considering allergies, culture, preferences, tolerance and nutrition plan.
• Deliver meals to patients per prescribed diet order.
• Set up and feed patients as needed.
• Document clinically using computer or Kardex system.
• Provide nutrition counseling and educate patients on food options per department standards.
• Retrieve and deliver food carts/trucks to patient floors.
• Carry trays to patients for timely delivery.
• Coordinate with kitchen/dietitian for personalized requests.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of unit kitchens; rotate stock to prevent expiry.
• Record daily temperatures of fridges/freezers.
• Gathers QA data to meet department standards.

Job Description

• QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience Required: Associates Degree in Nutrition, 50% successful completion towards a BS in Nutrition, and/or 2 years clinical experience as a diet tech.
• Experience Preferred: Prior patient contact and food service experience.
• Other Skills/Knowledge Required: For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors, and fellow members of the hospital team. Basic computer skills.

Job Functions

• Completes the menus with patient, in accordance to food allergies, ethnic/cultural issues, food preference, tolerance, and nutritional plan as determined by the dietitian.
• Delivers accurate and timely meals to the patient according to the prescribed diet order per department standards.
• Sets up and feed patients as needed.
• Completes clinical documentation using the computerized system and/or Kardex system as appropriate.
• Provides patients with clinical nutrition counseling, recommends food selection and educates patient on food options based on their medical requirements per department standards.
• Retrieves full food carts/trucks from the kitchen and delivers to patient floors.
• Carries trays to patients to deliver accurate and timely meals according to the prescribed diet order per department standards.
• Addresses patient's personalized request by working with the kitchen and or dietitian in an effort to accommodate patients.
• Maintains cleanliness and safety of food in unit kitchens by stocking according to needs of the unit, rotating stock to avoid expired food.
• Records daily temperatures of unit's fridge and freezer.
• Checks patient trays in tray line and assist in the kitchen with tray production.
• Gathers Quality Assurance data (daily/weekly/monthly) to ensure documentation meets department standards.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment to enhance patient satisfaction and a culture of safety.

Schedule

20 hours a week, including weekend and holiday rotations

Pay Range

$21.00 - $28.26

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
