Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL is seeking a Diet Technician to support clinical nutrition services. Under general supervision, you will gather diet histories, develop plans for meeting patients' immediate nutritional needs, adapt menus, order meals, and document in the patient’s medical record while serving as a liaison between patient, nurse, and food service.

Responsibilities

  • Completes nutrition screening for all newly admitted patients according to the department’s standards of care.
  • Monitors diet orders and enters diet orders in CBORD Diet Office System.
  • Creates and implements nutritional care plans for patients with minimal nutrition risk. Monitors nutritional parameters throughout the patients’ stay. Documents the nutritional follow-up and implementation care in medical record.
  • Discusses patient information and unit operations daily with the supervising dietitian.
  • Compiles and summaries patient information into the CBORD Diet Office System.
  • Initiates and calculates daily calorie counts of designated patients and records information in the medical record according to departmental policy.
  • Visits patients at meal rounds daily and records/communicates patient’s information according to department’s procedure.
  • Distributes, collates, and reviews patient satisfaction surveys and intervenes as needed to assure a high level of patient satisfaction.
  • Orders, cancels, and changes between‑meal‑nourishments for patients. Queries patient for tolerance of nourishments. Ensures adequate supply of par stock on units.
  • Assist patients with menu selection as needed.
  • Knows and operates the PCIS/CBORD computer pathways appropriately.
  • Provides patient with diet sheets and question patients or obtain a diet history about diet knowledge/intake. Provide effective nutrition counseling on basic diets under the supervision of the dietitian.
  • Communicates daily with unit leaders, CNC, and RN’s on units to coordinate patient care and resolve unit issues.
  • Works with and participates in the Quality Assessment and Improvement program.
  • Assists in orienting new diet technicians and dietetic interns to the dietary unit, as assigned.
  • Follows Food and Nutrition Services Policy and performs related duties as assigned.

Pay Range: $17.63 - $24.91 per hour

Summary

Under general supervision of the dietitian gathers information and obtains diet histories; develops plans for meeting the immediate nutritional needs appropriate for the age of the patients; adapts menus, orders meals and/or nourishments assuring patient satisfaction; records information in the patient’s medical record; gives nutrition instructions; acts as liaison between the patient and nurse, and the Food Service Department.
