Job summary

Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas is seeking a Diet Clerk to join our Food and Nutrition Services team. This part-time, non-benefited role supports patient meals, processes diet orders, assists with menu selections, and serves as a liaison between Nursing and Food and Nutrition Services.

Must be able to speak, read, and write English. A SD County Food Handler Card or Food Safety Certificate (or eligible to obtain within 30 days) is required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
• SD County Food Handler Card; or Food Safety Certificate, or able to pass Food Handlers test within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Process diet orders and assist patients with menu selections.
• Distinguish between food and medication allergies and maintain current diet orders.
• Check tray line for patient tray accuracy and serve as liaison between Nursing and Food & Nutrition Services.

This is a part-time non-benefitted position located at our Scripps Memorial campus in Encinitas. Must be available to work a varied shift (start time will be dependent upon the department's need) and varied schedule including weekends.

Great opportunity for a Diet Clerk to join our Encinitas Team. Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas has served the growing communities of San Diego's coastal North County since 1978. We are a community hospital with a friendly environment.

Our Diet Clerks provide administrative and clerical support for Food and Nutrition Services. Responsibilities include processing diet orders, assisting patients with menu selections, and distinguishing between food and medication allergies, Maintains current diet orders and menus to ensure compliance to the physician diet order. Checks tray line for patient tray accuracy. Able to function effectively in a call center environment. Serves as a liaison between Nursing and Food and Nutrition Services departments handling patient complaints, food issues and basic questions about meals/diets.

Required Qualifications:

• Must be able to speak, read, and write English
• SD County Food Handler Card; or Food Safety Certificate, or able to pass Food Handlers test given by certified manager or designee within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Food Service experience
• Food Service experience in a healthcare setting
• College courses in nutrition
• Experience in customer service
