Job summary

PIH Health Whittier Hospital is seeking a Diet Clerk to support the nutritional care of patients. You will process diet orders, obtain patient menu selections via CBord, and adjust menus to meet physician orders. You’ll check tray lines for accuracy against diet orders and patient menus.

Strong communication and basic computer skills are essential to ensure high-quality food service. High school diploma or GED required; hospital diet office experience a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be able to speak, write and read English and do simple math.
• Minimum 6 months hospital diet office experience; knowledge of modified diets preferred.
• Experience with diet orders, tube feedings, and tray line checks is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Process diet orders and diet changes accurately.
• Obtain patient menu selections via CBord and ensure they meet physician orders.
• Verify trayline accuracy against prescribed diets and patient menus.
• Communicate with care teams to ensure high-quality patient food service.

Job description

The Diet Clerk functions as support in the nutritional care of patients. The primary responsibilities are processing of diet orders, obtaining patient’s menu selection via CBord computer system and correcting those menus to ensure selections meet physician-prescribed diet order, checking tray line for accuracy to patient menu selection and prescribed physician diet order, and communicating effectively to ensure high quality food service to patients.

Required Experience

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required
• Must be able to speak, write and read English and do simple math
• Minimum 6 months experience working in hospital diet office. Knowledge of modified diets required ( Renal, Dysphagia, Controlled Carbohydrate, Cardiac, Sodium Controlled, etc). Education ( Completion of college level classes in diet therapy, nutrition through the life cycle, nutrition, etc) may be substituted for experience.
• Able to process diet orders, tube feedings, diet changes and NPO orders accurately. Minimum 6 months experience checking trayline to ensure meal trays meet prescribed diet order. Education (Completion of college level classes in diet therapy, nutrition through the life cycle, nutrition, etc) may be substituted for experience).
• Intermediate computer skills required — prior experience working with Computrition, CBord or any other computerized diet office system helpful.
