Job summary

Penske is hiring a Diesel Technician/Mechanic III - Entry Level in Effingham, IL. You’ll perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on a diverse fleet, using Penske’s tools and tech for diagnostics and repairs.

You’ll work with experienced supervisors, receive industry-certified training, and grow within a stable career. The role supports learning across OEM equipment, with emphasis on safety, reliability, and high-quality service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification preferred.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and 1–2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience preferred.
• Ability to solve problems and use tools; strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team and outdoors; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and ensure vehicle safety for customers.
• Use Penske tools/tech to log, research and complete repairs, including basic diagnostics.
• Perform preventive maintenance and component lubrication/replacement on gas/diesel engines.
• Learn new skills via Penske training and hands-on coaching with a manager.
• Take on other projects as assigned by supervisor.
