Job summary

Ryder is hiring a Diesel Technician Trainee in Columbus, OH, with weekly pay and excellent benefits. You will train on the job to become a Ryder Diesel Mechanic Technician, starting with First Shift hours and a Monday–Friday schedule.

No experience required; on‑the‑job paid training and career development are provided, along with medical/dental/vision after 30 days and 401(k) matching. This role includes generous bonuses and stock discounts where eligible.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred
• Zero to one year mechanical experience preferred
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Proficiency in English written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated customer service skills
• Strong technical aptitude with ability to learn to use and maintain equipment and machinery preferred
• Ability to troubleshoot and work independently and as part of a team
• Track record of performance and good attendance
• Competency in basic computer skills and in a Microsoft Office environment
• Beginner level knowledge of machines and tools and shop management systems preferred
• Valid CDL Class A preferred
• DOT safety regulated position; regulated tech
• Safety sensitive position; age/work hours determined by state law

Responsibilities

• Move heavy duty vehicles into or out of yard, wash bay, service shop, or delivered to rental shop.
• Wash and detail vehicles manually or using automated equipment; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles properly while adhering to all shop safety policies.
• Record fuel activity and maintain proper fuel and DEF inventories and reconciliation; use hand held devices to identify customer and required services.
• Perform multi-point inspection on inbound units as required by company policies and procedures; check tire pressure and thread, fluid levels, lights, etc.
• Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards; perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor.
• Attend and complete Technician Training Development Program requirements (Group training, Tech I/II)
• Performs other duties as assigned
