Job summary

Florida Power & Light Company in Miami, FL is seeking a Diesel Technician for the Fleet Services team. You will maintain and repair vehicles and equipment to support all customer segments with a focus on electrical, mechanical, and hybrid applications.

The role requires at least three Medium/Heavy Duty ASE Certifications (one for T4 Brakes) or related degree/MOS, plus a valid Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 12 months. Competitive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Three Medium/Heavy Duty ASE certifications with one for T4 Brakes, or an related degree/cert, or MOS in related field.
  • Valid Class A CDL with Tanker “N” Endorsement or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and demonstrate safe working practices.
  • Analyze faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs to vehicles and equipment.
  • Understand operating manuals, blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
  • Order general use parts through the internet and ensure all parts are correctly charged out in FA system.
  • Communicate indirectly with vendors to test products and technical services.
  • Communicate with customers on vehicle and equipment status.
  • Ability to meet attendance and storm duty requirements.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Position Specific Description

Our Fleet Services Department is looking for a Diesel Technician to join their team in Miami, FL. Diesel Technicians provide safe and reliable vehicles and equipment to all customer segments while maintaining a technical focus for solutions to complex problems including but not limited to electrical, mechanical, fluid powering or hybrid applications.

To qualify for the position, you must possess at least three (3) Medium Duty/Heavy Duty Truck ASE Certifications of which one is for T4 Brakes OR an Associate Degree/Certificate of completion from an accredited university within a related field (e.g., Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, etc.) OR Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) within a related field (e.g. Automotive/Truck/Equipment maintenance, Diesel engines, Hydraulics, etc.).

Job Overview

Employees in this role provide safe and reliable vehicles and equipment to all customer segments while maintaining a technical focus for solutions to complex problems including but not limited to electrical, mechanical, fluid powering or hybrid applications. At times this position will assist in monitoring and assessing performance of other technicians and groups to make improvements or take corrective actions. Employees in this job follow processes and procedures to achieve desired results while utilizing interdependence/collaboration with work group to ensure maximum potentials.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Under general supervision:

  • Communicates and demonstrates safe working practices

  • Communicates indirectly with vendors to test products and technical services
  • Communicates with customers on vehicle and equipment status
  • Ability to meet attendance and storm duty requirements
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • High School Grad/GED
  • Experience: 2+ years
  • Valid Driver’s License (Non CDL)
  • Three Medium Duty/Heavy Duty Truck ASECertifications of which one is for T4 Brakes OR Associate’s Degree OR certificate of completion from an accredited university within a related field (e.g. Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, etc.)OR Military MOS within a related field (e.g. Automotive/Truck/Equipment maintenance, Diesel engines, Hydraulics, etc.)
  • Valid Class A CDL with Tanker “N” Endorsement or must attain within 12 months of employment
