Diesel Technician/Mechanic III - Entry Level

Location: 2405 Perimeter Rd, Mobile, AL 36615

Overview

As a Technician at Penske, you'll perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on a variety of vehicles. You will help our customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road. This role is suitable whether you are new to the workforce or have some vehicle repair experience, with opportunities to learn and grow in a safety-focused and well-supported environment.

You'll work with a range of equipment and manufacturers, with strong emphasis on safety and reliability. You will learn Penske’s vehicle maintenance processes and cutting-edge technology, supported by industry-certified training. Our facilities are clean and well-equipped with major shop tools. If you are mechanically inclined and eager to learn, this could be a great fit with growth potential.

Main Responsibilities
  • Making sure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers
  • Using Penske's tools and technologies to log, research and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
  • Performing preventative maintenance repairs such as tire replacement/rotation, lubrication, and replacement of vehicle components, with some electrical system and cooling system maintenance on gas and diesel engines
  • Partnering with your manager to learn new skills using Penske's technician training and hands-on coaching
  • Working on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and 1-2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to solve problems and comfort using tools
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and outdoors
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, and regulations established by Penske management
  • Must comply with DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies, including proper tool use, PPE, machine guarding, and safety practices
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance
  • Position may require driving Penske and customer vehicles; a current driver qualification file must be maintained as required

The driver qualification file includes: annual MVR check, DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records from prior employers in the last 3 years. CDL holders will have a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and subject to FMCSA Clearinghouse review.

  • Willingness to work the required schedule, be at the specified location, submit to background checks, pass a drug screen and DOT-required physical, and potential travel for training
