Job summary

Penske Truck Leasing is seeking a Technician in Decatur, Alabama. In this role, you will perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on a well-maintained fleet of vehicles, ensuring customer satisfaction and safety.

Ready to accelerate your career while helping our customers move forward? As a Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on the newest and best maintained fleet of vehicles in the industry. You will help customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road.

Responsibilities
  • Make sure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers.
  • Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics.
  • Perform preventive maintenance repairs—such as replacing or rotating tires—and complete component lubrication, replacement, electrical system repairs, and cooling system maintenance on gas and diesel engine vehicles.
  • Partner with your manager to learn new skills using Penske’s technician training and hands‑on coaching.
  • Work on other projects and tasks as assigned by your supervisor.

Work shift: Tuesday through Friday 11:30 am to 8:00 pm and Saturday 7 am to 3:30 pm

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and 1–2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • The ability to solve problems and comfortable using tools.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Comprehend and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established by Penske management.
  • Adhere to DOT, OSHA, and all Penske safety and maintenance policies; including but not limited to the correct selection and use of appropriate tools, PPE, machine guarding, and established best safety practices.
  • Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
  • Drive Penske and customer vehicles in accordance with DOT requirements; maintain a current driver qualification file, including annual MVR checks, completed DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records. CDL holders must complete a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and be subject to an FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
  • Willingness to work the required schedule, location, complete Penske employment application, submit to background screening (criminal, employment, education), pass a drug screen and physical as required by DOT, and accept potential travel for training.

This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation or designated as safety‑sensitive by the company, and requires a constant state of alertness and safe behavior. Associates must accept responsibility for their own safety, as well as the safety of others.

Physical Requirements
  • Move frequently, stand, walk, climb, bend, and sit for extended periods during the scheduled working period.
  • Use hands on a routine basis to grasp, reach, touch, handle, feel, and otherwise operate required tools or controls.
  • Work safely at heights using ladders and elevated platforms.
  • Work safely in all weather conditions.
  • See and hear to safely navigate a workplace where large trucks move frequently.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg). This position also requires the ability to push or pull truck tires that exceed 100 lbs.
