Job description

Position Summary

The Diesel Technician maintains diesel equipment, completes inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, corrects vehicle deficiencies, performs adjustments and alignments, and maintains records to ensure safety and customer service commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs all job duties in accordance with company safety policies and regulations.
  • Performs maintenance tasks based on driver pre- and post-trip inspections in a timely manner or as directed by the maintenance manager.
  • Maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventative maintenance, making corrections when needed.
  • Works in adverse conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow, to repair equipment and vehicles.
  • Builds and assembles machines or mechanical components according to requirements.
  • Troubleshoots reported problems and resolves them promptly.
  • Maintains all relevant records for work and procedures, and reports issues.
  • Performs accurate lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Runs diagnostic tests on vehicles, analyzes results, and troubleshoots; test drives vehicles to diagnose malfunctions when necessary.
  • Performs procedures to ensure maximum reliability and safety of equipment, including preventative maintenance, tire changes, brake repairs, and rebuilding hydraulic components and hoses.
  • Participates in training and learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services, and performs other duties to support company goals and values.

Technician Apprentice: Learns and develops skills alongside a knowledgeable Casella Waste Diesel Technician, focusing on maintenance, repairs, and safety.

Technician B: Identifies operating issues through testing and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems, and corrects issues as needed.

Technician A: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs vehicle systems to ensure safety and dependability.

Master Technician: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs all vehicle and equipment systems, including rebuilding engines and replacing major components.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Class A, B, or C driver’s license, and be legally eligible to work in the U.S. A minimum of 1-year experience in inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment is required. Strong communication, listening, problem-solving skills, and teamwork are desired. Successful completion of pre-employment testing, including a drug screen, is mandatory.
