Job description

Position Summary

The Diesel Technician maintains diesel equipment, completes inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, corrects vehicle deficiencies, performs adjustments and alignments, and maintains records to ensure safety and customer service commitments are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with company safety policies and regulations.
  • Conduct maintenance tasks based on driver pre- and post-trip inspections promptly or as directed by the maintenance manager.
  • Maintain diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance, making appropriate corrections when needed.
  • Work in adverse conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow to repair equipment and vehicles.
  • Build and assemble machines or mechanical components as per requirements.
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all relevant records for work and procedures and report issues.
  • Perform accurate lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Run diagnostic tests on vehicles and analyze results to identify problems; test drive vehicles when necessary.
  • Perform procedures to ensure maximum reliability and safety, including preventive maintenance, tire changes, brake repairs, and utility replacements; build, rebuild, and replace hydraulic components and hoses of vehicles or stationary equipment.
  • Participate in training and learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services, and perform duties that support our vision, mission, and core values.
Career Path Definitions & Distinctions

Technician Apprentice: Works alongside a knowledgeable Casella Waste Diesel Technician to learn and develop skills. Focuses on maintenance, repairs, and safety of vehicles and equipment.

Technician B: Identifies operating issues through examination, test driving, and troubleshooting using standard testing procedures and diagnostic equipment. Corrects issues as needed.

Technician A: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs vehicle systems including brakes, suspension, steering, tires, hydraulics, engine, and more to ensure safe and dependable operation.

Master Technician: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs all vehicle and equipment systems, including rebuilding engines, transmissions, and electrical and hydraulic components.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Class A, B, or C driver’s license, and be legally eligible to work in the U.S. A minimum of 1-year experience in inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment is required. Excellent communication, listening, problem-solving skills, and a team-oriented attitude are desired. Successful completion of pre-employment testing, including a drug screen, is mandatory.
