Job summary

JRJ Group is seeking a hands-on Rental Store Diesel Technician to support our growing rental fleet of trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery. You will perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs to ensure every asset is field-ready and meets our standards of excellence.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of diesel technician experience.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications in diesel, equipment maintenance, or hydraulics preferred.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Experience with small-to-medium construction equipment and trucks.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain DOT Medical Card (CDL is a plus).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, safety awareness, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, maintenance, and diagnostics on diesel engines and power systems used in rental trucks, trailers, skid steers, mini excavators, compressors, and other fleet assets.
  • Conduct routine servicing including oil changes, fluid checks, and filter replacements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues to ensure uptime.
  • Prepare equipment for rental by verifying functionality and completing post-rental inspections; address repairs promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation of equipment to rental-ready condition.
  • Accurately record all maintenance work, inspections, and repairs using internal tracking systems or service logs; ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company standards.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area; use PPE and follow safety protocols; provide occasional customer-facing support.
  • Communicate with rental managers, dispatch, and drivers to prioritize repairs based on schedules and job demands; assist with parts ordering.

Diesel Technician Responsibilities:
Diesel Maintenance & Repair:
  • Perform inspections, maintenance, and diagnostics on diesel engines and power systems used in rental trucks, trailers, skid steers, mini excavators, compressors, and other fleet assets.
  • Conduct routine servicing including oil changes, fluid checks, and filter replacements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues to ensure uptime.
Equipment Readiness & Turnaround:
  • Prepare equipment for rental by verifying functionality, completing post-rental inspections, and addressing all required repairs promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation of equipment to rental-ready condition.
Documentation & Recordkeeping:
  • Accurately record all maintenance work, inspections, and repairs using internal tracking systems or service logs.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company standards.
Safety & Shop Support:
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area at the rental facility or shop.
  • Use appropriate PPE and follow all safety protocols while performing work on various types of equipment.
  • Provide occasional customer-facing support by explaining basic equipment functionality or safety checks.
Cross-Team Coordination:
  • Communicate with rental managers, dispatch, and drivers to prioritize repairs based on rental schedules and job demands.
  • Assist with parts ordering or inventory needs for rental service operations.
Desired Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of diesel technician experience, preferably within a rental or construction fleet environment.
