Construction Diesel Technician Responsibilities
- Mechanical Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and transmissions using diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical issues and make data‑driven repairs.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled PMs on construction equipment and fleet vehicles to prevent breakdowns and extend equipment life; conduct inspections of tires, fluid levels, filters, and wear components using checklists and OEM guidelines.
- Field Service & Emergency Repairs: Respond to equipment breakdowns on job sites and perform field‑based repairs quickly and safely; communicate with operators and supervisors to assess issues and determine repair priorities.
- Equipment Variety & Versatility: Maintain and repair a wide range of equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, pavers, rollers, dump trucks, trailers, and company trucks; flex between shop work and field support based on operational needs.
- Documentation & Safety Compliance: Accurately record maintenance activities, inspections, and parts used in service software or paper logs; follow safety protocols, PPE requirements, and company policies at all times; support DOT and OSHA compliance through proper recordkeeping and safe practices.
Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience as a diesel technician, preferably in a construction or heavy equipment setting.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certifications in diesel or heavy equipment repair preferred.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain DOT Medical Card (CDL a plus).
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mobile equipment diagnostics.
- Ability to weld, fabricate, or perform basic fabrication repairs is a plus.
- Must be dependable, safety‑focused, and capable of working independently or with a team.
