Job summary

Ryder is hiring a Senior Level Diesel Technician in Savannah, Georgia. The role includes performing vehicle maintenance and diagnostics on heavy- and medium-duty equipment, with a schedule Tue–Sat and first shift hours.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A preferred; able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
• Valid CDL required by location or as noted.

Responsibilities

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard and preventive maintenance.
• Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic equipment.
• Complete detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision.
• Mentor Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels and assist with workplace safety and compliance.

Education

Salary & Bonuses

• Hourly Pay: $30.50 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification (up to $700)
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter
• Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday
• Hours: First Shift 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• Vocational or technical certification/degree (preferred)
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
• Routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Basic diagnostics and repairs (AC and electrical systems)
• Three (3) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
• All other certification as required by location (required)
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
• Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment
• Computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.

Additional Requirements

• Drive Ryder vehicles
• Must obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including:
• Standard vehicle maintenance
• Preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses complex mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision
• Replaces defective components as instructedWorks unsupervised on most tasks
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Acts as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
• Demonstrate ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents
• Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)
• SBTIII trained within 180 days (SBT220)
• Complete 2 of the OEM On-Line diagnostic scan tool software courses as required by location fleet mix within 365 days
