Job summary

North America Central School Bus is looking for a skilled vehicle technician to maintain and repair our school buses and fleet vehicles in Palatine, IL. You will lead EV maintenance efforts and ensure DOT compliance while mentoring junior technicians.

Qualifications

  • Diesel engine repair and vehicle maintenance experience.
  • Familiarity with FMCSA and DOT safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Leadership abilities and willingness to train others.
  • Technical certification or ASE preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and overhaul school buses and fleet vehicles per FMCSA guidelines.
  • Champion the adoption of EV maintenance practices and technology.
  • Diagnose, inspect, and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Tune engines, align wheels, and maintain electrical systems to meet DOT standards.
  • Replace worn parts, change filters, and perform oiling/greasing.
  • Test drive vehicles after repair to ensure safety and performance.
  • Conduct minor bodywork and repainting as needed.
  • Track parts usage, manage inventory, and order supplies.
  • Report safety concerns and corrective actions.
  • Mentor junior technicians and assist where needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
