JobOverview:

The Diesel Technician is responsiblefor diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and relatedequipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. This role requirestechnical expertise in diesel engines, mechanical systems, and various vehiclecomponents. The ideal candidate will have experience working on trucks, heavyequipment, or other diesel-powered machinery and be committed to safety,precision, and high-quality service.

KeyResponsibilities:
Diagnosticsand Repair:
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issuesin diesel-powered vehicles and equipment using diagnostic tools andsoftware.
  • Perform engine overhauls, transmission repairs, andbrake system repairs on diesel trucks, buses, and other heavy machinery.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to fuel injection systems,turbochargers, cooling systems, and emissions control.
  • Repair or replace defective parts such as alternators,fuel injectors, pistons, and cylinder heads.
RoutineMaintenance:
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on dieselengines and components, including oil changes, filter replacements, tirerotations, and battery checks.
  • Inspect equipment and vehicles for potential problems,addressing issues before they lead to major breakdowns.
  • Test and calibrate engines and systems after repair ormaintenance to ensure proper functionality and efficiency.
Safetyand Compliance:
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with safetystandards, manufacturer specifications, and local, state, and federalregulations.
  • Follow OSHA safety guidelines, including the use ofpersonal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of hazardousmaterials.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering toall safety protocols in the shop or on-site.
CustomerService:
  • Communicate effectively with customers or supervisorsto explain repair needs, provide accurate cost estimates, and discussmaintenance recommendations.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality repairs to minimizevehicle or equipment downtime for the customer.
  • Keep detailed records of services performed, partsused, and time spent on each job for accurate billing and customercommunication.
  • Work closely with other technicians and shop personnelto ensure efficient workflow and quick turnaround times for repairs.
  • Assist in mentoring and training junior technicians andapprentices as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training andcertification programs to stay up-to-date with advancements in dieseltechnology.
Qualificationsand Skills:
  • Experience:
  • Experience as a diesel mechanic or technician workingon diesel engines and related systems.
  • Experience with heavy-duty trucks, buses,agricultural, or construction equipment is a plus.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems, andmechanical components.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools such asmultimeters, engine analyzers, and pressure gauges.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, and air brakesystems commonly found in diesel vehicles.
  • Problem-Solving:
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills toquickly identify and resolve engine or mechanical issues.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently managetime and resources to complete tasks.
  • Communication:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills toexplain repairs and maintenance needs clearly to customers and teammembers.
  • Ability to maintain accurate service records anddocumentation.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment (up to 50lbs), stand for extended periods, and work in various physical positions(bending, kneeling, crawling).
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions, indoorsand outdoors, as needed for field service calls.
Education& Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a formal diesel technician trainingprogram or apprenticeship preferred.
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification inDiesel Engines or related fields is a plus.
  • CDL (Commercial Driver's License) may be required forfield service.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
