Job summary

Ryder System, Inc. in Astoria, NY is seeking an Entry Level Diesel Technician to help maintain heavy-duty vehicles and keep our fleet safe and efficient. You will learn and apply diagnostic and repair skills with supportive mentoring, while contributing to daily maintenance tasks.

This role offers weekly pay, excellent benefits after 30 days, and a pathway to certification and growth within the Ryder team in logistics and maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year or more experience in transportation maintenance preferred.
• Valid CDL Class A preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic vehicle maintenance.
• Performs component identification and minor repairs.
• Performs preventive maintenance with training and support.
• Performs facility maintenance duties.
• Perform all entry level tasks.
• Diagnoses minor mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic tools when applicable.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Basic tools, required
• One (1) year or more experience in transportation maintenance, preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to understand and communicate effectively, work shift work/weekend as required, perform all entry level tasks, and demonstrate mechanical aptitude
• Knowledge of and the ability to apply knowledge of computers
• Some experience in transportation maintenance preferred
• This position requires for you to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee you must:
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including Drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.
