Job summary

Southland Transportation seeks a Diesel Technician in Knoxville to maintain heavy‑duty trucks and trailers. You’ll inspect tires, perform services, and support quality control in a fast‑paced shop. 1–5 years’ diesel experience preferred; CDL is a plus but not required.

This full‑time role runs Monday–Friday, 7:00am–4:30pm with some flexibility, emphasizing safety and teamwork. Manufacturer software experience to diagnose equipment is a plus.

  • Experience or schooling in diesel mechanics.
  • Familiarity with hydraulics, diesel engines, chassis and suspension, welding/metal fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Check vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Report vehicle defects or damage to the vehicles.
  • Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth‑wheel locks.
  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure no damage.
  • Crank trailer landing gear up or down to securely position vehicles.

Fleet Maintenance
  • Knoxville - Terminal
Diesel Technician

Summary: Knowledge of heavy‑duty tires, oil, lube, filter, brakes, physical capability to perform such work. This position assists in ensuring quality control of all semi‑truck and trailer equipment owned and leased, as well as other company owned vehicles. Inspect tires daily, repair and replace as needed. Do services as scheduled. Will be responsible for inventory and communicating well with others. This position is Monday‑Friday, 7:00am‑4:30pm. Exact hours are flexible.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Report vehicle defects or damage to the vehicles.
  • Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth‑wheel locks.
  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
  • Crank trailer landing gear up or down to safely secure vehicles.

Able to perform physical labor.

Education And Experience
  • 1-5 years' experience.
  • Experience or schooling in diesel mechanics.
  • CDL a plus but not required
  • Interacting with manufacturer software systems to diagnose and repair equipment
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly or as needed. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel; reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
