Job summary

Murphy-Hoffman Company, LLC is seeking a Diesel Service Technician / Mechanic in Asheville, NC. The role performs heavy‑duty mechanical repair under supervision and trains toward Service Journeyman status.

Duties include engine overhaul, fuel and electrical systems work, transmissions, cooling, brakes, and general maintenance. Safety, tool care, and collaboration with the Shop Foreman are essential parts of the job.

Qualifications

• CDL preferred.
• Minimum 3 years hands-on experience or graduation from a vocational program.
• A/C, Brake, and DOT Annual Inspector Certifications required.
• Necessary tools to perform position responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Performs general mechanical duties and assists in repairs.
• Gains experience on engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, transmissions, cooling, chassis, brakes, tune-ups, and maintenance.
• Works on major components with supervision and performs troubleshooting on minor problems.
• Attends training sessions and keeps area neat; uses company tools safely.
• Reports to Shop Foreman for additional repair work as needed.

Murphy-Hoffman Company, LLC is North America’s largest Kenworth truck dealership group and leasing group. As MHC continues to grow, we have an opening for a Diesel Service Technician / Mechanic. The role of the Diesel Service Technician / Mechanic performs heavy‑duty mechanical repair under general supervision, receiving on‑the‑job training in a development program to achieve Service Journeyman status.

• Performs and/or assists in the performance of general mechanical duties.
• Gains experience by working on the following items with minimal supervision: engine overhaul, fuel systems, electrical systems, transmissions, cooling systems, chassis, brakes, engine tune‑up, and general maintenance.
• Works on major components with close supervision.
• Performs troubleshooting on minor problems.
• Attends training sessions and meetings.
• Maintains a neat and orderly working area, and properly handles company tools.
• Advises the Shop Foreman if additional repair work is necessary.
• Follows safe work practices and procedures, uses safety equipment when required, responds to suggestions for working safely, and seeks assistance when necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
