Job Summary

TCAT Jacksboro has a current opening for a Diesel Powered Equipment Technology Instructor. This full-time position on campus position.

Job Duties
  • Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours.
  • Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi.
  • Professional Development: Remain current within the instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process.
  • Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College's decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement as well as accreditation standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three years of experience in the occupation to be taught.
  • Current ASE Service Technician Certifications are required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A technical diploma in Diesel or Heavy Equipment Repair is highly preferred. Consideration will be given to a comparable combination of education and directly related experience.
  • ASE Master Technician in Medium/Heavy Duty Repair
  • Prior teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have a strong hands-on technical background in all aspects of diesel technology.
  • Must possess excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills for the effective transfer of knowledge and skills to students for job placement of graduates in the field.
  • Willingness to acquire new skills and remain current in the field.
  • Be willing to learn and use individualized instructional techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Must possess computer skills and ability to utilize technology to enhance teaching.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
  • Use of computer
  • Normal standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Work is performed in a classroom and shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • Must be physically able to lift, stoop, stand and work, with or without accommodation, to demonstrate and perform all work-based projects in a classroom and shop setting.
  • Ability to operate instructional equipment.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience according to Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines. Associate level instructor range is Minimum $56,263 to Midpoint $67,517.
