Job summary

Bob Clapper Automotive, Inc. in Janesville, WI is hiring immediately for an experienced diesel technician to service GM trucks, Isuzu trucks, and some heavy‑duty commercial diesel vehicles. Earn $70,000–$100,000 annually with uncapped earning potential.

You will follow dealership and factory specifications, perform diagnostics and repairs, and participate in ongoing training to stay ahead of truck technology.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and keep insurability.
• 2-year technical degree or higher education and 2 years in related field.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
• Knowledge of and experience with a variety of vehicle applications.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Computer knowledge.
• Basic mathematics skills (add, subtract, fractions, percentages).

Responsibilities

• Communicate with Service Advisor to gain knowledge of job quoted repair time.
• Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy per standards.
• Diagnose cause of malfunctions and perform repairs.
• Communicate with Parts Department to obtain needed parts.
• Save and tag parts for warranty or customer request.
• Notify if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed on time.
• Document all work on repair orders with timestamps.
• Road test vehicle when required.
• Participate in manufacturer training and stay updated on bulletins.
• Supervise/assist apprentices as assigned.
• Report machinery/tool defects to Supervisor.
• Keep vehicle clean and maintain appearance.
• Maintain customer satisfaction index relative to manufacturer/branch.
• Keep shop area neat and clean.
• Maintain and account for all dealership tools and manuals.
• Operate tools and equipment safely and follow procedures.

MAIN OBJECTIVE:

Repairs and maintains medium & light duty GM trucks, Isuzu trucks and some heavy‑duty commercial trucks, both gasoline and diesel, according to dealership and factory specifications. QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Communicate with Service Advisor to gain knowledge of job quoted repair time
• Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
• Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair effectively
• Communicates with Parts Department to obtain needed parts
• Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
• Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
• Documents all work performed on the repair order and electronically time stamps each job repair line
• Road tests vehicle when required
• Participates in manufacturer sponsored training programs, schools, and events
• Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins
• Supervises/assists work of any apprentice technicians as assigned
• Reports machinery/tool defects or malfunctions to Supervisor
• Ensures that vehicle is kept clean. Notifies Service Advisor or Supervisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
• Maintain Customer Satisfaction Index rating at least comparable to that of the manufacturer, zone or branch average
• Keeps shop area neat and clean
• Maintains and is accountable for all dealership owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner and follows safe work practices
