Job summary

Bob Clapper Automotive, Inc. in Janesville, WI seeks an experienced diesel technician to repair and maintain GM trucks and related heavy equipment.

You will diagnose, troubleshoot, perform repairs to gasoline and diesel engines, and support ongoing technician training to stay ahead of technology. This is a full-time on-site role with uncapped earning potential based on performance; salary range 70,000–100,000 USD yearly.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with Service Advisor to learn repair time.

• Road test vehicle when required.
• Participate in manufacturer training programs.
• Keep tools and shop area organized and safe.

MAIN OBJECTIVE:

Repairs and maintains medium & light duty GM trucks, Isuzu trucks and some heavy-duty commercial trucks, both gasoline and diesel, according to dealership and factory specifications. QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Driver's License, maintain insurability through our insurance carrier
• Must have a 2- year technical degree or higher education and 2 years in a related job field.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
• Must have knowledge of and experience working on a variety of vehicle applications
• Excellent organizational skills
• Computer knowledge
• Must have basic mathematical skills (must be able to add, subtract, and work with fractions and percentages
• Must have own tools and tool box

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Communicate with Service Advisor to gain knowledge of job quoted repair time
• Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
• Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair effectively
• Communicates with Parts Department to obtain needed parts
• Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
• Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
• Documents all work performed on the repair order and electronically time stamps each job repair line
• Road tests vehicle when required
• Participates in manufacturer sponsored training programs, schools, and events
• Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins
• Supervises/assists work of any apprentice technicians as assigned
• Reports machinery/tool defects or malfunctions to Supervisor
• Ensures that vehicle is kept clean. Notifies Service Advisor or Supervisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
• Maintain Customer Satisfaction Index rating at least comparable to that of the manufacturer, zone or branch average
• Keeps shop area neat and clean
• Maintains and is accountable for all dealership owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner and follows safe work practices
