Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled Mechanic to service trucks and heavy equipment, diagnose issues, and keep Iowa moving with up-to-date technology. You’ll work a Monday–Friday schedule, with on-call duties during emergencies, and must be able to obtain a CDL within months of hire.

Formación

• Three years of full-time work experience in automotive or heavy equipment mechanic work.
• Three years of education and/or full-time experience; 30 semester hours equals one year of experience.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch including eighteen months as a Mechanic Helper.
• A CDL permit upon hire; Class A CDL and endorsements required within five months.
• Entry-level driver training available upon hire through the Iowa DOT.
• Pre-employment physical, drug screening, and post-offer testing required.

Responsabilidades

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical components.
• Use computer-based diagnostic tools and maintenance software to troubleshoot and document repairs.
• Perform proactive preventative maintenance on snowplows, dump trucks, loaders, and other vehicles.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, identifying root causes and applying effective repairs.
• Maintain accurate service records to track history and compliance.
• Operate snow-removal equipment to clear roadways for safe travel.
