Diesel Mechanic - Shaw's Distribution Center - Scarborough, ME

Tractor/Trailer Technician

General Summary:

As a Reefer/Trailer Mechanic servicing CWP/Shaw's, you will perform all levels of maintenance services, with the primary focus on refrigeration units such as ThermoKing and Carrier refrigeration equipment designed for Class 8 refrigerated trailers.

  • $28.00 - $32.00 hr. depending on experience and certifications
  • Shift and Schedule
  • 8-hour shift M-F
  • Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Weekends as the business needs requires .
  • Day shift
  • Location: Truck Shop in Scarborough, ME
  • Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform Preventive Maintenance, diagnostic/troubleshooting and repairs on reefers using hand & power tools and diagnostic equipment and software in a shop and field environment.
  • Provide additional support regarding preventative maintenance and tractor trailer maintenance as needed.
  • Able to read complex schematics associated with refrigeration equipment.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document as needed.
  • Determines proper part numbers by consulting service and parts manuals.
  • Operates appropriate powered industrial equipment when necessary.
  • Understands safety takes precedence over operating productivity.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work area and environment. Including but not limited to cleaning shop equipment, floors, and fluid containment areas.
  • Complies with DOT / OHSA/EAP regulations as it pertains to their area of responsibility and ensures CWP/Shaw's is in compliance with pertinent regulations.

Education, Knowledge, and Certifications:

  • Knowledge in truck, trailer, and reefer industry- preferred
  • Graduate of post-secondary automotive/truck/HVAC technology program.
  • Valid driver's license required (CDL a plus)
  • Possesses or able to obtain 608/609 Refrigeration Technician Certification.
  • Ability to obtain ASE certification in heavy truck.
  • Good Communication (written and verbal)
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems including Windows and Microsoft is required, and TMT (Maintenance Software) helpful.
  • Diagnostic skills preferred (ThermoKing, Carrier, Bendix -ABS, Volvo, Cummins and Allison)
  • Must possess adequate hand, pneumatic and electric tools required to perform routine repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to work with supervisor and other technicians to coordinate and prioritize work in the shop.
  • Physical Requirements / Environment:
  • Able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Able to reach and grab tools and equipment.
  • Stand and/or walk on concrete surfaces, and one place for extended periods of time.
  • Climbing to heights of more than 24 inches with the use of a ladder and/or other climbing apparatus.
