Diesel Apprentice Program Details:

The Apprentice Program is competency-based, meaning there is no set time for the program to last. During this time, the following tools will be utilized to support the on-the-job learning experience:

  1. Competency List - The Competency list will show what you have completed and what you still need to learn.
  2. Internal Training - "In-house" training led by competent mechanics while you are in the program.
  3. Manufacturer Training - You will have the opportunity, schedule willing, to attend manufacturer training.
  4. Mentoring - You will always work under a mentor or senior mechanic. This person will help you learn and understand the trade and the industry.
  5. Reviews - You will schedule quarterly reviews with your leadership team to review your performance and achievements.

Once you have completed all of the competencies and completed 144 hours of classroom training per year, you will be promoted out of the Apprentice Program.

What You'll Do:
  • Promote Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards.
  • Repair and Maintain Mobile Equipment. Service, repair, adjust and test all mobile equipment that operates throughout the plant to maximize performance and limit downtime.
  • Inspect Equipment and Material. Inspect all mobile equipment to identify and troubleshoot errors. Perform repairs as necessary.
  • Handle and Move Objects. Handle, install, position, and move parts, materials, and tools safely throughout the shop and plant.
  • Document and Record Information. Ensure accurate documentation of all mobile equipment maintenance and repairs, maintaining service reports in written or electronic form.
  • Perform General Physical Activities. Engage in physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials as required.
Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

  • Experience. Previous experience on diesel or heavy construction equipment preferred. High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Vocational/trade school training in a mechanical field is also preferred.
  • Knowledge of Best Practices. Knowledge of servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.
  • Flexibility. Willing to work overtime and extended hours as needed, outdoors in all weather conditions, and tolerate loud noises.
  • Mechanical Skills. Some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.

Hourly Range: The hourly range for this role is between $25.68 - $39.48. This range does not include bonuses or equity. Compensation considers skills, experience, job scope, and market data.
