Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to maintain a diverse fleet at the Cedar Rapids Maintenance Garage. You will diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on gasoline and diesel equipment to keep operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

Three years of full-time automotive or heavy equipment mechanic experience.
CDL Class A with air brake endorsements within 5 months of hire.
Pre-employment physical and drug screen required.

Responsibilities

Set priorities to ensure critical repairs are addressed first and coordinate with supervisor.
Perform diagnostics on equipment and systems to identify and repair issues.
Overhaul components on gasoline and diesel equipment.
Analyze, diagnose, and repair computer-controlled systems.
Order and maintain shop inventory.
Maintain electronic repair records and files.
Complete emergency repairs and work in adverse weather conditions.
Support roadway projects and snow/ice removal as needed.
