Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America in Vermont is seeking a diesel Class 8 mechanic to maintain trucks and trailers, ensuring DOT compliance and safe operation across our fleet. This full-time role follows a standard schedule from 8 am to 5 pm with on-call hours as needed.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years' experience as a diesel Class 8 mechanic, with ability to read driver inspection reports and use personal hand tools.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least two years' experience as a diesel Class 8 vehicle mechanic.
• Must be able to read driver inspection reports.
• Must communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Must provide and use personal hand tools for heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations.

Responsibilities

• Responds to maintenance requests from drivers, safety coordinator, DOT coordinator, lead mechanic, transportation supervisor, and fleet manager.
• Maintains and repairs trucks and trailers to be in proper operating condition according to DOT specifications.
• Conducts periodic inspections, diagnoses problems, and eliminates unsafe operating conditions.
• Performs annual vehicle inspection and admissions tests in compliance with state regulations.
• Operates arc and MIG weld equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
• This is a full-time position.
