Job Overview

Thompson Equipment Maintenance, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support the Shop’s fleet in the Charleston Tri-County area. The role involves maintenance of heavy construction and automotive equipment on-site in the local area, including diesel and gasoline engines.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment to identify repairs and perform corrective actions.
• Maintain and repair automobiles, trucks, tractors, mixers, dozers, excavators, pumps, and similar equipment.
• Install or repair special equipment.
• Operate and maintain repair tools and machinery.
• Assist in selecting parts for repairs.
• Perform minor welding and brazing work.
• Keep records and reports.
• Assist drivers and operators daily.
• Work hours: Typically Monday-Friday, 6am-4pm, with possible variations.

Qualifications

• At least four years of mechanical experience on gas/diesel trucks or heavy equipment in a certified shop.
• Valid South Carolina Class D license and clean driving record.
• Completion of recognized apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
• Own tools required.
• Negative drug test result prior to hire and maintained throughout employment.
• Ability to lift up to 90 pounds, stand, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
• Flexible schedule, including overtime and weekends as needed.
• Ability to tolerate various weather conditions.
• Minimum age: 21 years old.
• Preferred residence within 50 miles of Charleston.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of construction and repair methods for gas/diesel equipment.
• Ability to read drawings and sketches for repairs.
• Basic welding skills preferred.
• Effective communication skills.
