Summary/Objective:
The Diesel Mechanic will maintain/repair all types of company-owned vehicles, including Gasoline, Diesel, Electric, and Propane powered. Troubleshoots and diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions, and efficiently repair the same.
Responsibilities:
- Perform computer diagnostics, troubleshooting, and assemble repair plans.
- Conduct DOT inspections and evaluate the performance of all drivetrain components; work on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks, steering systems.
- Perform repairs on a minor and/or emergency basis, including parts of bodies, e.g., doors, landing gear.
- Install, adjust, or align wheels, bearings, and air brake and valve systems to diagnose and repair braking and valve systems.
- Diagnose and repair air, electric, and hydraulic brake and valve systems.
- Adhere to strict safety practices, company policies, rules, and regulations; correct obvious hazards or report to supervisor if not immediately correctable.
- Possess knowledge of vehicle body control systems, electronics, AC and hydraulic systems, light/medium and heavy-duty trucks, diesel engines (e.g., Cat/Cummins), transmissions, 12/24 Volt electrical systems, water blasting equipment, heavy-duty vacuum trucks, and air machines.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all units as scheduled and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3+ years of diesel mechanical experience/training.
- Strong communication skills, both internally and externally.
- Current CDL and TWIC card a plus; may be required to travel.
- Own tools and transportation; reliable and hardworking.
- Technical institute training or equivalent experience is favorable but not mandatory.
- Ability to do electrical wiring.
- Basic understanding of OSHA, fire protection regulations, and fall protection is favorable but not mandatory.
- Follow all safety, PPE, and equipment policies.
Physical Requirements:
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and handling large tools.
- Able to climb on/off equipment and ascend/descend ladders.
- Able to stand, kneel, or crawl; perform all essential job duties.
- Work in all weather conditions, including high temperatures, cold, wind, ice, humidity, rain, fog, hail, sleet, and snow.
- Work under various lighting conditions, from daylight to dark.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, airborne particles, and fumes.
- Work hours vary daily based on business needs.
