Job summary

Performance Foodservice is seeking a diesel fleet technician in Southwick, MA to diagnose and repair medium to heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and refrigeration units. You will document work orders and parts, ensure compliance with regulations, and perform road call services as needed.

The role includes competitive pay from $34.10–$44.35 per hour, a $5,000 sign-on bonus, and a robust benefits package with health, 401(k) matching, education assistance, and PTO.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent.
  • 5-7 years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair experience.
  • 5+ years of repair experience including PMs, tire & wheel, air & air disc brakes, diagnosis, electronic troubleshooting, and at least 2 years in A/C refrigeration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspect fleet diesel equipment and components.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms and wheel bearings and replace as needed.
  • Ensure licensing and registration before roadworthiness certification.
  • Document work orders and parts used daily in the EAM system.
  • Install, replace and repair onboard computers.
  • Conduct road call services as required.
  • Train other employees and perform related duties.

Position Purpose

Responsible for diagnosing and repairing medium to heavy-duty trucks, trailers, reefer units, converter dolly and maintenance vehicles under minimal supervision. Ensure compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations. Communicates and interacts with co-workers. Technicians are responsible for the documentation, completion, and keeping the work orders for all repairs and parts used daily. The position will be required to perform road call services as needed.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Complete and perform preventative maintenance on minor repairs and standard component inspections/ repairs of fleet diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, refrigeration units) as well, identifying root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as requiredInspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition which may require replacement of partsEnsure equipment has required licensing and registration prior to being deemed as “roadworthy”Complete thorough documentation for work orders of repairs and preventative maintenance through the online Enterprise Asset Management systemInstall, replace, and repair onboard computersUse hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoistsPerform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment and machinery requiring the use of hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoistsTrain other employeesPerforms other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
  • Required Experience: 5 - 7 Years
  • 5+ years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair including PMs, tire & wheel, air & air disc brakes, diagnosis, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, electronic component repair and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in A/C refrigeration.
