The State of Indiana, via INDOT, seeks a Diesel Mechanic to perform major and minor repairs on a range of vehicles and equipment in Cambridge City. CDL is required or must be obtained within 90 days, with CDL training provided onsite.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within the first 90 days.
  • Thorough knowledge of automobile functions, systems, and repairs.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to instruct others in the use of diagnostic equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate safety precautions.
  • Ability to understand the system of mechanical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Rebuild, replace, and repair major parts on cars, light trucks, heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment (exhaust, fuel system, transmission, brakes).
  • Perform minor repairs or related mechanical work (valves, tires, injectors, hydraulics).
  • Install snowplow blades and repair plow assemblies.
  • Perform minor body repair work.
  • Maintain EMS records of parts used and work performed.
  • Service and repair highway equipment in the field; weld as needed.
  • Diagnose performance issues in gas and diesel engines.
  • Inspect vehicles/equipment for damage and safety.
  • Winter operations duties including snow/ice removal.
  • Operate snowplow or tow truck and manage fuel records.
  • Attend training and safety meetings; order/collect parts as needed.
  • Provide emergency roadside service during incidents.
  • Coordinate work with Shop Foreman and report problems.
  • Attendance at assigned worksites is essential.
