Diesel Mechanic -$2500 Sign on Bonus- Intermediate, University Park
University Park, IL

We’re looking for intermediate Diesel Technicians with at least 1 year of experience in the Heavy Class 8 Mechanical Industry (or similar industry) to build an exciting career at Carvana - the fastest-growing used automotive retailer in U.S. history and one of the four fastest companies to make the Fortune 500! As a member of the Fleet Maintenance team, you’ll play a key role in helping deliver happiness to our customers by ensuring all preventative maintenance and general repairs are completed on our vehicle haulers and trailers in a timely manner and up to Carvana standards. We’re looking for motivated team players with at least 1 year of experience working with heavy equipment to:

  • Diagnose (using diagnostic equipment) and perform general, preventative maintenance, and DVIR for all heavy equipment.
  • Perform scheduled repairs and resolve issues uncovered during inspection including changing brakes, adjusting steering systems, replacing parts, fixing complex electrical issues, changing hydraulic components, and changing tires according to TIA guidelines.
  • Use welders, torches, and plasma cutters to weld or fabricate broken parts.
  • Maintain accurate and proper records for all repairs performed on our fleet using our software (including parts records).
  • Use diagnostic equipment to pull fault codes and follow OEM diagnose trees to accurately diagnose equipment.

General qualifications and requirements include:

  • 1+ years experience in Heavy Class 8 Mechanical Industry or a similar industry.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Obtain at least two ASE Certification within the first 6 months of employment (process sponsored by Carvana).
  • Must have your own tools to complete daily tasks, specialty tools will be provided by Carvana.
  • Requires standing for extended periods of time with frequent stretching, reaching, walking and stooping, pushing and/or pulling in an environment that may be cold, hot, noisy, and wet and may have fumes or odors due to vehicle maintenance.
  • Must be able to carry and transport up to 60 pounds up to 20 feet.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others effectively in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both written and oral.
  • This position may require travel for training purposes.
