Job summary

Knife River - ND is seeking a skilled Mechanic to repair and maintain trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, loaders, trench diggers and asphalt equipment. Requires 4+ years on heavy equipment, diesel and gasoline engines, and ability to obtain necessary licensure. CDL and related endorsements, medical card, and welding experience preferred.

Will work flexible shifts with possible nights and Saturdays. Responsibilities include using manuals and tools, diagnosing issues, and ensuring safety and compliance

Qualifications

  • 4+ years' experience working on heavy equipment and construction type vehicles (diesel & gasoline).
  • Ability to hold and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
  • GED and/or equivalent combination of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize manuals, hand tools & power tools.
  • Utilize on-line computer research and diagnostics resource tools.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical power, transmissions, brake, hydraulic and other equipment systems.
  • Ability to read job orders, observe and listen to equipment in operation to determine system malfunctions.
  • Repair cylinders, elevator chains, undercarriages, planetaries, recharges and replaces batteries, transmissions, torque converters, planetaries and hydraulic pumps using mechanic hand tools, welding equipment, standard charts and hoists.
  • Examine and replace protective guards, loose bolts and specific safety devices on heavy equipment as needed.
  • Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired truck or equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork to support preventative maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Mechanic repairs and maintains trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, wheel and track loaders, trench diggers, asphalt equipment as well as any other type of machinery that may be brought in for maintenance and/or repairs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  1. 4+ years' experience working on heavy equipment and construction type vehicles both diesel and gasoline.
  2. Ability to hold and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
  3. GED and/or equivalent combination of experience.
  4. Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights and some Saturday.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  1. CDL and endorsements related to the mechanic and transport field
  2. Current medical card.
  3. Mechanic Certifications from an accredited program.
  4. Light welding experience.
DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Utilize manuals, hand tools & power tools.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES:
  1. Extensive knowledge and experience with all types of gasoline and diesel construction equipment and vehicles.
  2. Ability to safely use hand tools and equipment.
  3. Must be able to troubleshoot and problem solve.
  4. Independently working to assess and repair equipment appropriately.
