Cogent Analytics in St. Louis is seeking experienced Diesel Service Technicians for their second shift. The position entails diagnostic testing, inspection, and repair of diesel engines, requiring 4+ years of relevant experience and a valid CDL-B. The ideal candidates will possess advanced knowledge of diesel engine components and the ability to utilize diagnostic software.

Union wages and a comprehensive benefits package including health, welfare, and paid vacation are offered. This role starts on days and transitions to nights after 90 days with a pay increase.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of diesel or heavy equipment maintenance and repair experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and CDL-B (CDL-A strongly preferred).
  • Must furnish own tools.

Job description

Diesel Service Tech/Mechanic

Our client, a family‑owned truck repair shop, is an operated Union Diesel Repair Shop serving the St. Louis area for over 80 years. Currently being run by the 4th generation of Schroeders. We are looking for Diesel Mechanics for our 2nd shift, 3:30 to Midnight, Monday through Friday work week. Union wages and Benefits via Machinist District 9.

Dues & Responsibilities
  • Consult customer and read work orders to evaluate tasks required
  • Prepare work plans after fully scoping out the issues
  • Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results to offer suitable solutions
  • Inspect vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts
  • Repair or replace vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and other associated parts
  • Conduct field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown
  • Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge their performance
  • Complete oil changes, coolant service, AC evaluation, and brake checks
  • Maintain records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles
  • Ensure the job area is organized and clean, including meeting necessary standards for waste disposal and environmental protection
Job Requirements
  • At least 4 years of diesel or heavy equipment maintenance and repair experience (Preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of a vehicle, its electrical system, and the mechanisms of a diesel engine (Hi rail and hydraulic knowledge is Preferred)
  • In‑depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms
  • Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment
  • Comfortable using mechanical and electrical power tools
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics (MaxxTraxx knowledge is preferred)
  • Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostics software
  • A valid driver’s license; Must have CDL‑B (CDL‑A strongly preferred)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills
  • Must furnish own tools
Physical Requirements
  • Work inside an open floor plan shop
  • Daily exposure to dirt, oils, smells and sounds, related to standard mechanics’ shop
  • Must be able to lift, handle, meet ladder safety requirements
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs. regularly
  • Must be able to work at heights of 0‑20 ft
  • Must be able to bend, stand, sit, crawl, lay, climb, and lie throughout each day
  • Required to stand, walk, and sit frequently. Required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch to access vehicle areas
