Position Description

Immediately hiring a permanent full-time experienced mid-level diesel technician (CDL A or B REQUIRED) to support our truck fleet at Ryder in San Diego, California.

• Hourly pay: $38.01 per hour
• Certification bonus of $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
• Quarterly bonus: Ryder pays up to $500 every quarter
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, weekends off
• Hours: Second shift, 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm
• CDL A or B REQUIRED

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or technical certification, post-secondary degree, or technical certifications preferred
• Basic tools required
• Experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance such as oil changes, brake and tire work
• Two or more years of classroom training and work experience, preferred
• Valid CDL Class A, preferred

• This position requires driving Ryder vehicles. To become a Ryder employee, you must:
  • Obtain CDL within 6 months of hire
  • Pass Ryder drug test
  • Pass DOT physical
  • Pass Ryder road test
  • Pass Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Responsibilities

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repairs
• Conduct standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections
• Perform preventive maintenance
• Diagnose mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers
• Identify root causes of failures and perform repairs
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints
• Utilize shop management systems and electronic documentation
• Comply with all safety, DOT, and corporate guidelines
• Support operations as needed, including service island duties
