Job summary

Ryder is hiring a Mid-Level Diesel Technician in Pittsburgh, PA. Work on heavy-duty vehicles with a strong benefits package and weekly pay.

The role offers a second shift (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm) and comprehensive training, with opportunity for growth, PTO from day one, and a company that values veterans and active service members. You will diagnose and repair diesel engines, perform preventive maintenance, and use diagnostic tools in a team-based environment.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical certification preferred.
• Two years or more of combined classroom training and work experience in automotive/mechanical repair.
• Valid CDL Class A preferred; ability to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance and inspections.
• Diagnoses mechanical/electronic problems using diagnostic computer where applicable.
• Identifies root causes and performs repairs as required.
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of the complaint.
• Uses Shop Management System for documentation and workflow.
• Complies with safety, DOT, MOT, and corporate guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
• Basic tools, required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:
• Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work, required
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience, preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A,preferred
• This position requires for you to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee you must:
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

• Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to Service Island support
