Now Hiring: Diesel Mechanic
Location: Norfolk, Virginia

NSC Staffing is seeking a Diesel Mechanic for an exciting opportunity to perform repair, maintenance, and diagnostic tasks on heavy-duty vehicles and industrial equipment in Norfolk, Virginia. This role is ideal for experienced mechanics passionate about working with diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, and a wide range of heavy mobile equipment. Position Overview:
As a Diesel Mechanic, you will diagnose and repair mechanical problems, conduct overhauls, and maintain heavy-duty equipment, including trucks, cranes, forklifts, and more. You will work independently to troubleshoot, repair, and ensure all equipment operates efficiently. This role also includes performing routine maintenance, ensuring the safety of your work environment, and complying with safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Repair & Overhaul: Conduct repairs, overhauls, and rebuild systems such as diesel and gasoline engines, automatic and non-automatic transmissions, hydraulic utility systems, and heavy-duty equipment.
  • Diagnostic & Troubleshooting: Utilize diagnostic tools to trace and locate defects, accurately identify mechanical problems, and determine the necessary repairs.
  • Installation & Maintenance: Install, repair, and maintain industrial machinery such as cranes, pumps, motors, pneumatic tools, and conveyor systems, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Plan work based on blueprints, diagrams, and specifications to complete repairs and installations.
  • Precision Work: Use measuring instruments like micrometers and rulers to examine parts and ensure correct dimensional requirements.
  • Field Repairs: Perform necessary repairs in the field, working with hand tools, hoists, and cranes to disassemble, repair, and reassemble equipment.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment to extend lifespan and maintain functionality.
  • Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following established safety protocols and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Equipment Operation: Operate cranes, forklifts, and air compressors to perform repairs and ensure proper equipment functionality.
  • Communication & Documentation: Maintain clear communication with team members and document repairs and maintenance activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Proven experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and industrial equipment such as cranes, forklifts, and trucks.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and engine repairs (gas and diesel), including 12 and 24-volt electrical systems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, operational manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to work with various hand and power tools, including wrenches, hammers, and screwdrivers.
  • Ability to perform repairs on equipment such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems to meet tolerances and specifications.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in challenging conditions around water or other potential hazards.
  • A driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
Work Environment:
You will work in various industrial environments, including fieldwork, warehouses, and outdoor locations. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards in all tasks.
