Job summary

GFL Environmental in Minnesota is seeking a diesel mechanic to safely operate, repair, rebuild and maintain heavy-duty trucks and equipment. The role includes diagnosing issues, planning repairs with the M5 planner system, and ensuring parts are procured for a solid maintenance plan.

Starting pay is up to $30 per hour with 2pm shifts, overtime after 40 hours, and benefits after set periods. Candidates should have at least 1 year of diesel experience, a GED or higher, and computer literacy to

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; technical diesel mechanics preferred.
  • At least 1 year of diesel mechanic experience.
  • Proficient computer literacy and ability to learn diagnostic software.
  • Safety-sensitive role; must meet screening criteria.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work in loud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate, repair, rebuild and maintain heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with heavy-duty diesel trucks, hydraulics, and waste/recycling equipment.
  • Plan and schedule repairs using the M5 planner system and procure necessary parts.
  • Complete daily reports, work orders, parts orders, and other administrative tasks.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with laws and company policies.
  • Assist in reviewing mechanical write-ups, coordinate repair schedules, and aid in training new team members.
  • Maintain personal hand and power tools and keep a clean, organized work area.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

Safely operate, repair, rebuild and perform maintenance on Company owned or leased heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment including rolling stock to ensure its ability to operate safely.

Starting Pay: up to $30/hr (Top Pay Will Increase Based on EXP) Starting Shift: 2pm start time, expect 8-12hr shifts. Start earlier and get out earlier on Fridays. OT after 40hrs worked.

Diagnostics & Repair:

Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with heavy-duty diesel trucks, hydraulics, and specialized waste/recycling equipment.

Planning & Scheduling:

Plan and schedule repairs using the M5 planner system, ensuring all necessary parts are procured for a successful maintenance plan.

Administrative Duties:

Accurately complete daily reports, work orders, parts orders, and other required administrative tasks.

Safety & Compliance:

Ensure all work is performed in safe conditions and in strict compliance with federal, state/provincial, local laws, and company safety policies.

Collaboration & Training:

Assist in reviewing mechanical write-ups on equipment, coordinate repair schedules, and aid in the training and orientation of new team members.

Tool Maintenance:

Possess, provide, and maintain the personal hand and power tools necessary to perform heavy equipment maintenance, while keeping a clean and organized work area.

Job Requirements
Education:

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); a technical diploma or degree in diesel mechanics is highly desired.

Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a diesel mechanic.

Technical Skills:

Computer literacy is required, with the ability to be trained on specialized software systems (experience with diagnostic software is a major plus).

Safety Screenings:

Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Physical Effort:

Frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/push/pull up to 100 pounds. Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary.

Environment:

Frequently exposed to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, vibration, hot/cold weather conditions, and toxic or caustic chemicals/fumes. Occasionally required to work in high, precarious places.
