Job summary

I-29 Diesel Services in Dell Rapids, SD is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel trucks and equipment in a busy shop.

You will work on light to heavy-duty vehicles, follow safety procedures, and collaborate with an experienced team to keep customers' vehicles safe and reliable. Full-time, Monday–Friday, with typical start 7:30 AM and 40–45 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Experience performing diesel vehicle or equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines and related mechanical systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and routine service work.
  • Complete bumper-to-bumper repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and mechanical issues.
  • Perform brake, clutch, drivetrain, and transmission repairs.
  • Remove and install differentials and related components.
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation and communicate repair progress with the team.
  • Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized while following shop safety procedures.

The Role

The Diesel Mechanic performs diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel trucks and equipment ranging from light-duty to heavy-duty applications. This role works on a variety of mechanical and electrical systems and plays an important part in keeping customer vehicles operating safely and efficiently. This is primarily a shop-based position offering hands‑on variety, steady work, and the opportunity to work alongside an experienced team in a collaborative environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines and related mechanical systems

  • 2+ years of diesel mechanic experience
  • Associate degree in Diesel Technology or related training
  • Experience with electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Experience working on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles
