Job description

The main purpose of this position is to diagnose and repair all systems on a diesel tractor, including but not limited to: engine, transmission, front axle, rear axle, suspension, air conditioning and heating, electrical, air brakes, and 5th wheel systems. The candidate must have an advanced set of hand tools, a rollaway toolbox, ½ drive impact and sockets, and a digital volt/ohm/amp meter.

The essential job duties include:

1. Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems on diesel tractors as indicated on work orders or discovered during inspection. Repairs include electrical, engine controls, clutch, differential, exhaust, u-joints, cab interior, wheel seals, brakes, air suspension components, thermostats, fan hub, air brake components, radiator, hoses, belts, alternators, batteries, lights, kingpins, shackle pins, bushings, drag links, tie rod ends, 5th wheel, and more. Document all repairs on work orders.
2. Operate tractors, including locating, driving into the shop, and parking after repairs.
3. Provide customer service by addressing and advising drivers on technical questions about their tractors.
4. Maintain a clean work area, including cleaning floors, tools, and equipment, and trash removal.
5. Procure parts by retrieving necessary parts and materials from the parts room.
6. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
7. Training includes instructing less experienced mechanics using hands-on methods and answering technical questions.
