Job summary

XPO is seeking a Diesel Mechanic in Centerville, Utah. You will perform routine maintenance on class 6–8 diesel equipment and trailers, diagnose issues, and repair systems with safety and DOT compliance in mind.

Applicants should have 2 years of related experience or a technical degree with certification, EPA Refrigerant Certification within 90 days, a valid driver’s license, and basic welding/hand tool skills. Expect shift variety and competitive benefits from day one.

• EPA HVAC refrigerant certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG, ARC) and general mechanical skills.
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty maintenance.
• Basic computer skills for maintenance records.
• Brake inspection qualifications per FMCSA rules.
• Vehicle inspection qualifications per FMCSA rules.
• Willingness to work a variety of shifts incl. days, evenings, nights, weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on class 6–8 diesel equipment and trailers.
• Access equipment to inspect, service, and repair components.
• Repair or rebuild various systems and diagnose issues.
• Ensure compliance with DOT, EPA, OSHA, and related regulations.
• Conduct safety inspections and document results.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Move trailers and operate specialized tooling as needed.
• Log time and parts on repair orders.

What you’ll need to succeed as a Diesel Mechanic at XPO

• 2 years of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair or a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance
• Obtain EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE, MACS or equivalent)
• A valid driver’s license
• Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG and ARC) and mechanical skills
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance
• Basic computer skills
• Brake inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.25
• Vehicle Inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.19
• Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends

Preferred qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience
• Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades
• Previous or current ASE certifications
• Experience with trailer repair, diesel engine system diagnostics and preventive maintenance for tractor technicians
• Able to diagnose and repair vehicle air conditioning systems

About the Diesel Mechanic job

Pay, benefits and more:

• Experienced Technicians can earn up to $39.11/ hour including Master Certification
• $1/hour increase for 2nd shift, 3:00pm-11:30pm Monday-Friday
• $3/hour increase for 3rd shift, 11:00pm-7:30am Monday-Friday
• Monday – Friday operation

What you’ll do on a typical day:

• Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of class 6 through 8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment
• Access any of the equipment to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under part of the equipment
• Repair or rebuild all or parts of various equipment systems
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and component issues and perform repairs accordingly
• Abide by DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and other rules and regulations
• Conduct safety inspections on equipment and prepare safety documentation as needed
• Maintain proficiency with equipment and technologies that enhance productivity
• Move trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weather
• Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
• Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and organized
• Interact with operations and shop management

Diesel Mechanics are required to:

• Frequently lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift more than 75 lbs.
• Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
• Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel

Walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
