Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair company-owned buses and fleet vehicles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and diagnostic tests.
  • Inspect and replace worn parts such as brakes, tires, and transmissions.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment and read service manuals.
  • Ensure safety and compliance with company policies.
  • Assist with shop organization and maintenance.

Job description

Job Summary

A Diesel Technician will perform repair work and maintenance for the company-owned charter buses, automobiles, shop truck, and other motor vehicles in the company’s fleet.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment, which may include but is not limited to: buses, motorcoaches, cars, fork lift, scissor lift, etc.
  • Basic responsibilities include but are not limited to tires, lights, brakes, chassis/suspension, engines (Cummins and Volvo), Allison Transmissions, Exhaust, HVAC, Electrical (AC & DC), passenger safety systems, glass work, shop safety and shop maintenance.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Perform tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
  • Identify mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
  • Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
  • Plan and establish timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
  • Test drive vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation.
  • Perform repairs from driver write-ups.
  • Assist the parts department.
  • Routine facility maintenance as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
  • Excellent mechanical repair skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read service and repair manuals.
  • Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to get a job done quickly and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Organized and detail minded.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in mechanical or industrial maintenance.
  • Three or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent education and experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stretch, kneel, squat and crawl to perform repairs and inspections.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
  • This position is very active and will require standing for much of the workday.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Work in a remodeled, modern environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
