Job summary

Fairbanks Morse Defense seeks a Project Engineer to design, test, and support diesel engine and generator systems from proposal through commissioning at customer facilities.

You will interact with engineering, quality, program management, purchasing, operations, and customers, leading document control and technical releases while driving cost-efficient improvements and meeting contract scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Marine Engineering; equivalent degree.
• Diesel generator set knowledge and experience; marine diesel engines.
• Fluid system design and component selection experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Proficiency with 3D/2D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
• Familiarity with 8D/Red X/A3, FMEA/FMECA, Lean/Six Sigma tools.
• MS Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Willing to travel to interact with customers.
• English proficiency; technical French/German/Danish a plus.
• Must qualify for Government Security Clearance; NOFORN requirement for U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Primary technical interface with the customer.
• Track, prioritize, and execute engineering deliverables per contract scope.
• Develop, release, and maintain product & project documents.
• Justify and communicate engineering decisions to meet goals.
• Manage design releases and drawings via the PDM system.
• Review contract status with customers and suppliers.
• Design & qualification work to replace obsolete components and improve products.
• Support engine production and testing, including root cause analysis.
• Write and release test reports per approved procedures; document deviations.
• Assist Technical Support with existing installations and programs.
• Support new engine sales and upgrade proposals, including specs and cost estimates.
